Gene Hackman, the legendary actor known for his iconic roles in films such as “The French Connection” and “Unforgiven,” was also a dedicated collector of art and memorabilia. After his passing at the age of 95 earlier this year, his family decided to auction off his extensive collection, giving fans and collectors a chance to own a piece of his legacy.

The auctions, both online and in person, showcased a wide range of items from Hackman’s personal collection. From scripts and clothing to awards and artwork, there was something for everyone to bid on. The online auction, open to all, featured personal mementos while the live auction in New York focused on his valuable private art collection.

A total of 13 paintings and sculptures from Hackman’s collection were up for grabs, and every single one of them found a new home. The highlight of the live auction was a painting titled “Figure on the Jetty” by American modernist Milton Avery, which sold for an impressive $508,500. Other notable pieces included works by Richard Diebenkorn and Fritz Scholder, all of which fetched high prices well above their estimated values.

The online auctions, which featured items like Hackman’s Golden Globe Awards and movie memorabilia, also saw a surge in demand. Personal paintings and tchotchkes from his collection sold for prices that far exceeded expectations. A bronze bust of his wife, Betsy Arakawa, titled “Betsy,” went for $7,680, while his Best Actor Golden Globe Awards sold for over $40,000 each.

With one online auction still to come, fans and collectors have another chance to own a piece of Hackman’s legacy. The upcoming auction will feature additional scripts, photos, musical instruments, and even a pinball machine and video game cabinets. Whether you’re a fan of his acting or his art collection, there’s something for everyone in the Gene Hackman auctions.
