“Down in the Dumps” is the third installment in the “In the Dwelling of Life” quest series in Genshin Impact. This quest involves solving several puzzles and finding a way out of the sewers to reach the surface. While the mission is relatively short, completing it rewards players with in-game items such as Primogems and upgrade materials.

How to complete the Down in the Dumps quest in Genshin Impact
Find a Way to Get Out of the Sewer and Back to the Surface
The quest “Down in the Dumps” begins automatically following the completion of the “Transplanting from ‘Yesterday’ to ‘Tomorrow'” quest. To start, exit the room and use the grappling mark to reach the upper level. After collecting the Exquisite Chest, interact with the mechanism to open the gate. Proceed to the next room where you’ll find another Rotary Mechanism; retrieve the wheel from a nearby crate to open this gate.
Should the gate become stuck without fully opening, sprint towards it and press the sprint button again to slide through the gap.
In the next step, destroy the wooden crates in the water and employ a Grappling Gun to pull the wooden board with a hook. Board the wooden platform, then refund the Grappling Gun to allow the other Grappling Gun to pull the board, enabling access to the next room.
Investigate the control room in the sewer
Inside the control room, interact with the book on the table to discover the guide for the sewer’s entrance and exit.
Collect three keys
Remove the blue key from the mechanism and place it into another mechanism to the north to unlock a door. After retrieving the blue key again, the door will close but remain ajar enough for you to slide through. Proceed to your right and insert the blue key before removing it again.
At the lower level, insert the blue key near the gate to open it. Enter the room to obtain the white key from the mechanism.
Place a Grappling Gun near a metal wall and destroy it.
Return to the flooded room, insert the white key, and wait for Paimon to retrieve the blue key. Insert it into the mechanism on the right.
Follow the newly opened path to a room with several Leshy. Reach the upper platform to collect the red key and defeat all enemies. Then, return to the flooded room to retrieve both the blue and white keys.

Return to the control room and open the door
After retrieving all the keys, return to the control room and insert all three into the control board to open the door.
Explore up ahead
Defeat the leshy inside the container to obtain the control wheel. Use the wheel to activate the Rotary mechanism and open the gate. Finally, collect the Luxurious Chest before taking the elevator to reach the surface, completing the “Down in the Dumps” quest in Genshin Impact.
As a reward for completing the quest, you will receive:
- 30 Primogems
- 4 Mystic Enhancement Ore
- 4 Hero’s Wit
- 22,500 Mora
