The attack was described as random and senseless, with Wasielewski experiencing excruciating pain as the chemical burned her skin, melted her clothing, and even damaged her car key fob in her pocket. Her friend Connor Milam recounted how she initially thought it was water being poured on her before realizing the severity of the situation.
The aftermath of the attack left Wasielewski with second- and third-degree burns covering half of her body, including her face, scalp, hands, and legs. She was rushed to the Augusta Burn Center for treatment, where she continues to receive medical care for her injuries. Her son, Westley, was informed of the attack by a good Samaritan who came to his mother’s aid, and he could hear her screams of pain over the phone.
The motive behind the attack remains unclear, as Wasielewski is known as a kind and generous person with no known enemies. Surveillance footage captured a person of interest wearing blue jeans and a dark hooded sweatshirt with a white cartoon rabbit, but no arrests have been made yet.
