Gerrit Jacob’s GAME OVER: A Dystopian Fashion Film
Designer Gerrit Jacob’s latest offering, GAME OVER, took a different approach to showcasing his collection in the spring of 2026. Instead of a traditional runway show, Jacob opted for a screening of a short film directed by his friend Simon Kounovsky. The film depicted a CGI-created dystopian world filled with imagery of burning paper money and figures dressed in Jacob’s signature oversized tracksuits and currency-printed garments.
The soundtrack, created by Manuka Honey, added to the apocalyptic mood of the film, which was shown in a dimly lit space adorned with discarded fake currency. Jacob’s show notes explained that the currency in the film no longer represented wealth, but rather fatigue—a commentary on the current state of the world.
In a post-screening conversation, Jacob expressed his frustration with the current state of affairs, stating that it felt necessary to create a collection that reflected the chaos of the world. He believes that fashion can and should respond to the political and cultural climate, even if it means delving into uncomfortable territory.
GAME OVER is set to be available for purchase starting in August 2025, offering a unique and thought-provoking take on fashion in a tumultuous world. Jacob’s willingness to confront difficult themes and push boundaries sets him apart in the fashion industry, making his work both visually striking and intellectually stimulating.
