The spotlight has suddenly turned dim for Katie Porter.
Katie Porter, California’s former Democratic Representative and an aspiring gubernatorial candidate, recently found herself in hot water after a video surfaced, courtesy of Politico. In this footage from July 2021, Porter unleashed a tirade on one of her staffers during a virtual conversation with Energy Secretary Jennifer Granholm.
In an unfortunate display of temperament, Porter snapped at a masked staffer visible in the background.
“Get out of my f*cking shot!” Porter insisted as the staffer attempted to interject regarding her comments about electric vehicles. “You also were in my shot before that. Stay out of my shot,” she emphasized, banging her fists on the table.

In the wake of this incident, Porter issued a perplexing statement to Politico.
“I hold myself and my staff to a high standard, and that was particularly the case during my time in Congress,” she stated. “I am making a concerted effort to express gratitude to my staff for their essential contributions.”
The resurfacing of this video follows closely after Porter experienced what many are calling a bizarre meltdown during an interview with award-winning investigative journalist Julie Watts.
Interviewing multiple candidates in California’s upcoming gubernatorial primary, slated for June 2026, Watts noted that Porter uniquely stood out as the only one unwilling to address a pressing question regarding garnering support from Trump voters.
Porter, with an air of disdain, remarked, “How would I need [Trump voters] in order to win? If it’s me versus a Republican, I believe I will attract those who didn’t vote for Trump.”
As Watts persisted with her inquiry regarding Trump voter support, Porter visibly became frustrated and attempted to terminate the interview.

Critics are quick to label Katie Porter as an abrasive and confrontational figure. Notably, she was previously implicated in an incident involving scalding mashed potatoes applied to her ex-husband’s head, a curious detail that adds to her controversial image.

Moreover, Porter’s confrontational nature is reflected in her past behavior, including a text message threatening Irvine Mayor Farrah Khan in 2021, stating, “I am a United States Congresswoman. You can lecture me on professionalism. And see what happens.”
A Democrat also flagged these Porter texts from 2021 to the mayor of Irvine.
