Glen Powell had a heartwarming surprise for the audience during his recent hosting gig on “Saturday Night Live.” In a touching moment during his opening monologue, the “The Running Man” star shared a story about a missed opportunity to host the show four years ago, tied to the original premiere date of “Top Gun: Maverick.”

Powell recounted how he and his family were celebrating the news of him hosting “SNL” when they were interrupted by a UPS delivery driver. Seizing the moment, they took a selfie with the unsuspecting driver to mark the occasion. However, Powell’s hosting opportunity was later rescinded due to the delay of the “Top Gun” sequel because of COVID-19.

Feeling a sense of obligation to set things right, Powell decided to track down the UPS driver, named Mitch, who had likely believed he was a liar all these years. With the help of his sisters’ determined efforts, they located Mitch and flew him to New York to attend the show as their guest.

During his monologue, Powell brought Mitch onstage, and the two shared another selfie to close the loop on this heartwarming story. Reflecting on the experience, Powell emphasized the importance of patience and perseverance, noting that good things often take time to come to fruition.

The entire audience was touched by the gesture, which highlighted the power of connections and the unexpected twists and turns that life can bring. It was a reminder that sometimes, the best moments are those that unfold over time and involve the support and kindness of others.
