Ryan Hurst has been cast as Kratos in the highly anticipated “God of War” live-action series coming to Amazon Prime Video. This marks a return to the franchise for Hurst, who previously voiced the Norse god Thor in the video game “God of War: Ragnarok.” However, this time he will take on the lead role of Kratos, the Spartan warrior turned god of war.
Kratos is described as a Spartan by birth and a god by nature. He rose to command armies in service of his homeland until he made a fateful deal with Ares, the Greek God of War, losing his soul in exchange for victory in battle. The series will follow the story of the most recent “God of War” games, where Kratos must raise his ten-year-old son Atreus. Together, father and son embark on a journey to spread the ashes of their wife and mother, Faye. Kratos aims to teach Atreus how to be a better god, while Atreus teaches his father how to be a better human.
Ryan Hurst is known for his roles in popular TV shows like “Sons of Anarchy” and “The Walking Dead,” as well as appearances in films such as “Remember the Titans” and “Saving Private Ryan.” He is represented by UTA and Piper Kaniecki Marks Management.
The adaptation of “God of War” has faced some challenges in its journey to the screen. Originally greenlit in 2022, the show saw a change in showrunners with Ronald D. Moore taking over from Rafe Judkins. Moore, known for his work on shows like “Outlander,” serves as the writer, executive producer, and showrunner for the series.
Frederick E.O. Toye will direct the first two episodes, with a talented team of producers including Maril Davis, Cory Barlog, and Naren Shankar. The series is a co-production between Sony Pictures Television and Amazon MGM Studios in association with PlayStation Productions and Tall Ship Productions.
Fans of the “God of War” video game series are eagerly awaiting the live-action adaptation, with Ryan Hurst set to bring the iconic character of Kratos to life on screen. Stay tuned for more updates on this highly anticipated series.
