FROM THE DESK OF THE PRESIDENT OF THE UNITED STATES
A PROCLAMATION
Since our nation’s inception, countless courageous individuals have stepped forward in defense of liberty, striving to maintain peace, protect our sovereignty, and uphold the fundamental principles that have shaped our identity for nearly 250 years. Many have made the ultimate sacrifice, with their families enduring tremendous grief, remarkable resilience, and inspiring dignity. This Gold Star Mother’s and Family’s Day, we pay tribute to the families of those heroes who have laid down their lives for our freedom.
The weight of this sacrificial act is not borne alone. It is shared by grieving families who, time after time, face the harrowing reality of loss that never fully fades. Gold Star Families intimately understand the staggering price of our liberty—paid for by the cherished lives of their loved ones: husbands, wives, sons, daughters, fathers, and mothers. These brave souls gave up their dreams and aspirations so that others might enjoy the tranquility and security of life in this great nation. We owe them our endless gratitude.
Last month, I had the honor of meeting with the Gold Star Families of the 13 service members who tragically lost their lives during the Afghanistan withdrawal in 2021. Four years on, these families still bear an unbearable grief, compounded by feelings of neglect and a lack of accountability from prior administrations. As Commander in Chief, I am steadfast in my commitment to honor our warriors and support their families. They deserve our unwavering respect and a robust policy focused on peace through strength, aiming to minimize the heartache of future losses.
As we commemorate Gold Star Mother’s and Family’s Day, the First Lady and I express our deepest compassion and unwavering support to those who carry such profound burdens with grace and fortitude. May the memory of your loved ones’ sacrifices remain etched in our hearts forever.
In accordance with Senate Joint Resolution 115, passed on June 23, 1936 (49 Stat. 1895 as amended), we recognize the last Sunday of September as “Gold Star Mother’s Day.”
THEREFORE, I, DONALD J. TRUMP, President of the United States, under the authority vested in me by the Constitution and the laws of our nation, do hereby proclaim Sunday, September 28, 2025, as Gold Star Mother’s and Family’s Day. I urge all government officials to display the American flag over government buildings and encourage citizens to display the flag and participate in ceremonies that reflect our nation’s deep respect and gratitude.
IN WITNESS WHEREOF, I have hereunto set my hand this
twenty-fifth day of September, in the year of our Lord two thousand twenty-five, and of the Independence of the United States of America, the two hundred and fiftieth.
DONALD J. TRUMP
