Google recently announced its latest software update for Pixel phones, known as Pixel Drop. This quarterly feature release brings new capabilities to existing devices, including notification summaries, a power-saving mode for the Maps app, prompt-based edits for Photos, and Gemini Nano-powered photo edits in Messages.

One of the key features introduced in this update is notification summaries, which is similar to Apple’s notification summaries introduced last year. Google’s notification summaries for Pixel 9 and later devices are designed for longer chats and conversations. In December, Google plans to roll out a feature that will silence low-priority notifications, similar to Apple’s Priority Notification feature.

The new low-power mode for the Maps app is another highlight of the Pixel Drop update. This feature will darken the screen and only display essential information such as the navigation route and details of the next turn. Pixel 10 series users can benefit from this feature, saving up to four hours of battery life.

Google is also expanding its scam detection feature using Gemini Nano and on-device speech detection. Initially available to users in the U.S., this feature is now being extended to users in the U.K., Ireland, India, Australia, and Canada. Additionally, Google is adding a “Likely a scam” button in notifications to indicate potentially suspicious messages.

The popular Nano Banana image model is now being leveraged in the Messages app with a new feature called Remix. Powered by Gemini, Remix allows users to reimagine photos using prompts. This feature is being rolled out to users in select countries with RCS enabled and support for the English language.

Another notable addition is the Pixel VIPs feature, introduced in June, which allows users to prioritize notifications from designated contacts. With the November Pixel Drop, notifications from these contacts will be given priority. Additionally, users will see a crisis badge in the contacts widget if there is an incident like a flood in the area where their contacts reside.

Google is also introducing an AI-powered editing feature for Google Photos, allowing users to make specific editing requests such as removing sunglasses or making someone smile. The feature utilizes Google Photo’s face groups feature to recognize individuals and apply edits accordingly.

The November update also expands support for a call transcription feature called Call Notes to additional countries, including Australia, Canada, the U.K., Ireland, and Japan. Additionally, a “Wicked: For Good” theme pack with new wallpapers, icons, system sounds, and GIFs based on the movie is available for Pixel 6 and later devices.

Overall, the Pixel Drop update brings a range of new features and enhancements to Pixel phones, further enhancing the user experience and functionality of these devices.
