Google has officially started rolling out its Gemini for TV assistant to the Google TV Streamer streaming box. This news comes as a relief to many who were worried about the winter release timeframe mentioned by Google, fearing it could mean a delay until next year. However, the update is now being rolled out over the next few weeks in the US and Canada.

Gemini for TV will completely replace Google Assistant on the Google TV Streamer, accessible through the mic button. This new assistant promises to offer a more intuitive and interactive experience for users.

The Gemini for TV update brings a range of new features and capabilities to the Google TV Streamer. Users can now use natural and multi-layered commands to find content recommendations tailored to their preferences. For example, you can say something like, “I like dramas but my wife likes comedies. What’s a movie we can watch together?” and Gemini for TV will provide suitable suggestions.

Additionally, Gemini for TV can help users catch up on previous seasons of shows by providing recaps. You can ask questions like, “What happened at the end of ‘Outlander’ last season?” and get a rundown of the key story beats.

Beyond content navigation, Gemini for TV can also be used as a learning tool. Whether you need help explaining concepts to a child or walking through a DIY project, Gemini for TV has you covered.

Setting up Gemini for TV on your Google TV Streamer in North America is simple. Just navigate to Settings, select Accounts & Profiles, choose your account, and then select Voice assistant. From there, you can select Gemini for TV to enable the new assistant. Google notes that once Gemini for TV is activated, all eligible TVs will also receive the update automatically. Currently, only the TCL QM9K is listed as an eligible TV, indicating limited compatibility at launch.

Overall, Google’s rollout of Gemini for TV to the Google TV Streamer marks a significant step forward in enhancing the user experience and functionality of its streaming devices. With its advanced capabilities and intuitive interface, Gemini for TV promises to revolutionize how users interact with their Google TV Streamer devices.
