Google has announced that its AI assistant, Gemini, is making its way to your TV. This new feature, called Gemini for Google TV, will allow users to engage in natural language conversations with the AI directly through their television sets. This expansion of Gemini to a new platform will reach over 300 million active Google TV and other Android TV OS-powered devices.
Gemini’s capabilities on TV are vast. Users can ask the AI for recommendations on what to watch, catch up on past seasons of shows, find movies or shows based on vague descriptions, or even inquire about reviews before deciding to watch something. Beyond TV-related queries, Gemini can assist with a variety of tasks, such as helping kids with homework, planning family vacations, learning new skills, and brainstorming project ideas.
The addition of Gemini to Google TV does not mean that existing Google Assistant features will be replaced. Users can still utilize the non-AI Google Assistant integration for various commands. The rollout of Gemini on Google TV starts with the TCL QM9K series and will expand to other models like the Google TV Streamer, Walmart onn 4K Pro, 2025 Hisense U7, U8, and UX models, and 2025 TCL QM7K, QM8K, and X11K models throughout the year. Additional functionalities will be introduced gradually.
