Grammarly Introduces Expert Review Feature for Enhanced Writing Assistance
Grammarly, the popular writing assistant tool, has recently unveiled a new feature called Expert Review, designed to provide users with insightful revision suggestions from subject matter experts. Launched in August 2025, this AI-powered feature aims to elevate the quality of users’ writing by offering feedback from prominent writers and tech journalists.
According to Business Wire, Expert Review can be accessed through the sidebar of Grammarly’s interface, allowing users to view suggestions from both living and deceased authors. Tech publications like Wired and The Verge have highlighted the unique approach of framing feedback as if it were coming from renowned figures in the writing industry.
When tested by a JS writer, the feedback received from Expert Review referenced ethical considerations, reader engagement techniques, and accountability questions commonly associated with JS’s editorial style. Despite the inclusion of references to well-known individuals, Grammarly clarifies that these experts are mentioned for informational purposes only and do not have any direct affiliation with the platform.
In a statement provided to Grammarly’s user guide, it is emphasized that the use of experts’ names in Expert Review is based on publicly available and widely cited works. Alex Gay, the vice president of product and corporate marketing at Superhuman, Grammarly’s parent company, reiterated that the feature does not imply endorsement or collaboration with the referenced individuals.

Despite the intriguing concept of Expert Review, some critics argue that the feature may not truly provide expert feedback, as it does not involve direct input from the individuals being referenced. Historian C.E. Aubin pointed out to Wired that the absence of genuine experts in the review process raises questions about the accuracy and credibility of the feedback provided.
