A horrifying incident unfolded in Los Angeles on Friday morning when a 10-year-old girl and her grandfather were stabbed by a maniac in the Sunland neighborhood. The grandfather, in his 70s, along with three children, was inside a car about to head to school around 7:40 a.m. when the attacker approached them from behind and attempted to stab them inside the vehicle.
Two of the children managed to escape, but both the grandfather and the 10-year-old girl sustained stab wounds and were rushed to a local hospital in stable condition, as reported by the LAPD. The suspect, who is known to the police, then stole their car and drove away, abandoning it a few miles away before fleeing the scene.
Residents in the neighborhood revealed to KTLA that the suspect, believed to be in his 30s, has been terrorizing the area for years and lives with his parents. He has a history of frightening people in the neighborhood, causing fear and concern among the locals.
The suspect, who has been homeless at times and occasionally returns home, lives out of his car and may be struggling with mental health issues, according to the police. Witnesses described the incident as an attempted carjacking that escalated into a violent attack, with neighbors recalling a similar stabbing incident in the area a few months prior.
The search for the suspect continues as the community remains on edge following the disturbing attack. Authorities are urging anyone with information to come forward to help bring the perpetrator to justice and ensure the safety of the neighborhood.
