A shocking incident unfolded at a South Side Aldi when a grandmother and her 6-year-old grandson were targeted by a gunman in the parking lot. The assailant, identified as 18-year-old Keshawn Gilmore, stole the grandmother’s black 2024 Buick SUV after brandishing a black handgun at them. The entire ordeal was captured on surveillance footage, providing crucial evidence for authorities.

Following the carjacking, the stolen vehicle was detected by license plate readers on the Dan Ryan Expressway and subsequently intercepted by Chicago police near 19th Street and Albany. Gilmore, accompanied by two passengers, attempted to flee from law enforcement, leading to a high-speed chase. The pursuit came to a dramatic end when Gilmore crashed the SUV at 3200 South Kedzie, causing a juvenile passenger to be ejected from the vehicle.

Despite the chaotic scene, law enforcement managed to apprehend Gilmore, who was found in possession of a Glock handgun that matched the weapon seen in the store video. Another handgun was also discovered in the vehicle, further solidifying the charges against him. Gilmore now faces a litany of criminal charges, including aggravated vehicular hijacking, aggravated fleeing, possession of a weapon, unlawful transportation of a stolen vehicle, and resisting arrest.

During a court hearing, Judge Shauna Boliker deemed Gilmore to be a safety risk and ordered his detention. The swift actions of the Chicago police led to the apprehension of the suspect and the recovery of the stolen vehicle, providing a sense of justice for the grandmother and her grandson. This harrowing ordeal serves as a reminder of the dangers that can lurk in everyday situations, underscoring the importance of vigilance and community safety measures.
