The graves of Bruce McLaren and his wife, Patricia McLaren, were recently targeted in a vandalism act in New Zealand. Reports surfaced that the graves of the late founder’s family were vandalized at Waikumete Cemetery in Auckland, New Zealand. Images shared on social media revealed that the graves of Mr. Bruce, his wife, and other family members, including his parents, sister, and brother-in-law, had been painted with gold paint in a despicable act of vandalism. Efforts are already underway to restore the graves to their original state.
The incident was first reported on September 30 by George Stewart-Dalzell of Grave Guardians, an organization dedicated to restoring and repairing headstones of graves. The Bruce McLaren Trust issued a statement condemning the vandalism, expressing their dismay and disbelief at the senseless act. The statement read, “It is with dismay that we need to inform our followers that the graves of Bruce, Patty, Ruth, and Pop at Waikumete Cemetery in Auckland have recently been vandalized. They have been sprayed with gold paint and had toy cars stuck onto them. We are lost for words as to why anyone would do this.”
The Bruce McLaren Trust also mentioned that a voluntary organization called The Grave Guardians has offered to repair the damage to the graves, for which they are extremely grateful. While the restoration work is ongoing, the gravestones have been wrapped and are currently not visible to the public.
Bruce McLaren, a legendary figure in the world of motorsports, was the founder of McLaren, a renowned F1 team and automobile giant. Born in Auckland, New Zealand, McLaren was not only a successful team owner but also a talented F1 driver who competed at the highest level of motorsport.
In other news, McLaren’s team principal, Andrea Stella, recently addressed the team’s drop in performance in the Formula 1 season. Stella acknowledged the team’s struggles compared to rivals like Red Bull, Mercedes, and Ferrari, attributing the decline in performance to a combination of factors. He explained, “You work in a very efficient way in a Formula 1 team, and actually blend your manpower with the methodologies, like the CFD and the wind-tunnel, so that none of them is actually a single limitation. You blend your working ways so that they become a single limitation, and that’s exactly what was the case for us.”
Despite the challenges, McLaren managed to secure a victory at the Mexico GP with driver Lando Norris, marking their first win in five races. The team’s performance has been fluctuating throughout the season, with Red Bull claiming three wins and Mercedes securing one victory. In total, McLaren has clinched 13 wins in 20 races so far this season.
As the McLaren team continues to navigate the ups and downs of the Formula 1 season, fans and supporters remain hopeful for a strong finish. The legacy of Bruce McLaren and his contributions to the sport serve as a source of inspiration for the team as they strive for success on the track.
