Half a century has passed since the tragic discovery of Marjorie Sue Fithian’s lifeless body on a remote gravel road, her 18-month-old son, Dylan, holding onto her hand. The circumstances surrounding her death in Greeley still remain shrouded in mystery.
On June 24, 1975, Fithian and Dylan were supposed to make their way back to Greeley after visiting family in Denver. However, they never arrived, as confirmed by the Weld County Sheriff’s Office statement on X.
Hours later, Fithian was discovered deceased with a fatal gunshot wound to her head along a desolate gravel road approximately 50 miles from Denver. Dylan, miraculously unharmed, was found clinging to her hand amidst scattered broken glass by a ranch hand who promptly sought assistance, as detailed in the statement.
Despite relentless efforts over the past five decades, authorities have been unable to identify the perpetrator responsible for Fithian’s untimely demise.
Various leads have been pursued, including a dubious confession from a local drug dealer that was later retracted, as mentioned in the statement. Investigators also explored the possibilities of hitchhiking gone wrong or a random attack, but solid evidence has remained elusive.
Dylan, who has no recollection of the tragic event, has only pieced together fragments of his mother’s life through family recollections.
