This week on The Five on FOX News, Greg Gutfeld made a striking claim: the current concerns surrounding Joe Biden’s cognitive decline are more significant than the infamous Watergate scandal. While he appears to be poking fun at the left’s penchant for exaggerating Trump’s misdeeds as Watergate-level offenses, there’s a serious undertone to his assertion.
Gutfeld highlighted the frantic efforts by Democrats and mainstream media to distance themselves from the unfolding controversy, insisting that we cannot simply let this slide. A reckoning is necessary, he argues.
He also emphasized the implications of the scandal on national security, suggesting that it poses a serious risk.
Here’s a partial transcript from the discussion, courtesy of Real Clear Politics:
GUTFELD: This situation makes Watergate look like a mere parking violation. We shouldn’t just move forward; we need to reflect on the past. There are claims that cabinet members doubt the president’s reliability during nighttime crises.
PERINO: Absolutely.
GUTFELD: This implies that Biden was essentially a candidate for the 25th Amendment during his presidency. How do we know this? We learned it only recently, on May 15, 2025, long after the fact. The book that reveals this isn’t really about Joe; it’s more about the authors’ failures. If the information was so critical, why wasn’t it disclosed sooner?
If this had been Trump, any information of this nature certainly wouldn’t have waited for a book release. Remember, during that period, Trump was not even in office yet he was labeled as an existential threat to democracy. Meanwhile, they were covering for a president who was incapable of fulfilling his duties. This is utterly absurd.
This issue is so monumental that I suspect the authors intend to downplay it, hoping we just forget it. But we must resist this urge. It’s a significant matter—we were deceived.
This is by no means a closed chapter, especially with audio from the Hur interview beginning to surface. Congressional hearings are essential.
