A Florida nurse has found herself in legal trouble after being accused of sexually assaulting her 15-year-old stepson. Following this incident, it has come to light that she has separated from her husband, as reported on Wednesday, along with disturbing details of the case.
Alexis Von Yates, 35, faced charges in early September and swiftly accepted a plea deal to evade a charge of sexual battery. Instead, she pleaded guilty to a lesser charge of lewd and lascivious battery concerning a minor aged 12 to 16, resulting in a minimal two-year sentence.
Since the assault in July 2024, Von Yates has separated from her husband, Frank Yates, a detail shared in a remand report obtained by the Daily Mail.
Von Yates claimed that her actions were driven by her belief that her stepson, who allegedly told police he was a virgin, reminded her of his father. She even went as far as to describe similarities between the teen’s anatomy and that of his dad, according to police reports.
The nurse, who has since lost her job, was reportedly making inappropriate jokes leading up to the incident about “stepmom adult films” and her increasing sexual frustration.
Witnesses claim Von Yates initiated contact with her stepson while her two young children were asleep in another room, proceeding to kiss his neck and ultimately assault him, as detailed in the teen’s testimony.
Her husband, Yates, caught them in the act as the frightened boy attempted to escape to the bathroom. While interrogating the teen about the incident, Von Yates maintained that she instructed him to stop.
<pDespite Von Yates’ claims, the teen rejected her story but feared for his safety, worrying that Yates might react violently, as indicated in the original arrest affidavit obtained by the Daily Mail.
Yates took the boy to his grandparents’ house for protection, expressing frustration about how the boy had “ruined his life.”
The grandparents further discouraged the boy from informing his biological mother about the situation, as reported.
It wasn’t until October 2024, three months later, that Yates anonymously notified the police regarding the assault.
During the sentencing, the biological mother of the victim expressed her anger and pain after nearly a year of supporting her son through the “trauma inflicted upon him,” highlighting that Yates had only reached out to him once since making the anonymous report.
“I am furious and deeply hurt, and at times it makes me physically sick. However, just like [my son], I will rise above,” she stated.
“Despite the trauma he’s endured, he still has a bright future ahead filled with love, hope, and endless opportunities.”
