Four Individuals Charged with Robbery and Mob Action After Allegedly Mugging Woman on CTA Bus
Chicago authorities have charged four individuals with robbery and mob action after they allegedly mugged a woman on a CTA bus, with one of the suspects recording the incident on their phone. Shockingly, two of the accused were already on pretrial release for other cases, with one even wearing an ankle monitor.
The incident took place on a bus in the 2400 block of West 51st Street around 2:40 p.m. on Tuesday. The victim, a 32-year-old woman, reported that three individuals punched and kicked her on the bus before dragging her off and stealing her purse, according to a report from the Chicago Police Department.
Police were able to swiftly apprehend the suspects, identified as Jaylen Sprouts (20), Nigah Threets (23), Devon Glass (24), and Jayda Boatman (22), after the victim directed them to the nearby bus.
Prosecutors revealed that Sprouts had recorded the violent attack on his phone while the other three physically assaulted and robbed the victim. Surveillance footage from a nearby school captured Sprouts documenting the crime as it unfolded.
Threets, who was already on GPS monitoring and nighttime home confinement for a pending aggravated battery case, was ordered detained by Judge William Fahy in light of the new charges. Glass, who was on probation for a weapons violation and out on pretrial release for a misdemeanor offense, was also remanded into custody.
On the other hand, Boatman was released on electronic monitoring, while Sprouts was allowed to return home under a strict curfew imposed by the judge.
This brazen act of violence on public transportation serves as a stark reminder of the need for heightened security measures to protect commuters and deter criminal activities in the city.
