Jeanne Vicerial’s latest series of sculptures, titled “Armors,” showcases the artist’s skillful use of black cord, thread, and fine metals to create transformative and protective garments. In her solo exhibition, “Nymphose,” at the prestigious TEMPLON gallery, Vicerial presents a collection of enigmatic sculptures that delve into the themes of presence, consciousness, and metamorphosis.

The sculptures featured in “Nymphose” depict dark and mysterious figures that exude a sense of silent contemplation. Some pieces, such as “Persephone n°3” and “Présence, Amnios,” bear semblances of human faces, while others like “Mue n°9, Nymphose” seem to embody a more ethereal and otherworldly presence.

Vicerial introduces elements of copper and gold into her sculptures, highlighting feminine power and internal energy. Described as “objects-as-offerings,” these works explore the concept of metamorphosis, both in the artistic process of transforming materials into sculptures and in the personal and emotional transformations that women undergo throughout their lives.

Drawing inspiration from her previous “Armors” series, the figures in “Nymphose” exude individual strength that is magnified when they are grouped together. Titles like “Gardienne,” meaning “guardian” in French, suggest a sense of protection, while “Mue,” translating to “molt,” symbolizes shedding old layers to make way for growth and renewal.

Vicerial’s sculptures strike a delicate balance between vulnerability and strength, portraying tall, elegant, and timeless figures that embody wisdom and resilience. By challenging societal taboos surrounding aging and embracing the natural cycle of life, the artist celebrates the beauty and power of transformation.

The exhibition “Nymphose” will be on display in Paris until July 19. To explore more of Jeanne Vicerial’s captivating sculptures, visit her website and Instagram profile.
