Off-Duty Chicago Police Officer Fired Upon by Masked Gunmen in Back of the Yards
On a Sunday morning in Back of the Yards, three masked gunmen targeted an off-duty Chicago police officer, opening fire as she stood near her garage in the 4800 block of South Bishop Street. The officer, aged 30, quickly responded by returning fire as the assailants fled in a white sedan driven by a fourth individual.
The officer sustained a minor injury from shattered glass and was taken to a nearby hospital for evaluation. Fortunately, no other injuries were reported from the incident.
Shortly after the confrontation, a stolen white four-door Lexus from Indiana was discovered engulfed in flames near 46th Street and Winchester Avenue. Authorities believe this vehicle was the one used by the suspects during the attack on the police officer.
The Chicago Police Department released a statement regarding the incident, detailing the events and confirming that the Investigative Response Team is actively investigating the situation. Additionally, the Civilian Office of Police Accountability (COPA) is involved in the case and is urging anyone with information to come forward.
As of now, no arrests have been made in connection to the shooting.
