A Chicago man has recently found himself in hot water after a 2022 surveillance operation conducted by the Drug Enforcement Administration (DEA) resulted in the seizure of cocaine, firearms, and a substantial amount of cash from his Loop apartment and SUV. The man in question, David Watson, has been charged in federal court, although it remains unclear why authorities waited three years before taking action against him.

The events leading to Watson’s arrest unfolded on June 8, 2022, when DEA agents observed him leaving his downtown apartment building on North Garland Court and getting into a maroon Jeep Cherokee with an unidentified woman. Upon their return to the building, both individuals were seen carrying weighted bags into the premises. Later that day, Watson was spotted loading items into the Jeep and driving off alone.

Following a stop by DEA agents, Watson allowed them to search his SUV, where they discovered a kilogram of cocaine, approximately $85,550 in cash, and an additional 45 grams of cocaine in the center console. A subsequent search of his apartment revealed several more kilograms of cocaine, multiple firearms, and a staggering $400,000 in U.S. currency.

According to the complaint, Watson admitted to planning to deliver the money and drugs to a courier with connections to a Mexican source near 33rd and Damen. However, a disagreement with the source caused him to abandon the deal. As a result, Watson now faces charges of possession with the intent to distribute 500 grams or more of cocaine.

This case serves as a stark reminder of the ongoing efforts by law enforcement agencies to combat drug trafficking and related criminal activities in our communities. The swift actions taken by the DEA in this operation highlight the dedication and vigilance required to keep our streets safe from harmful substances and illegal firearms.

As we continue to support the important work of law enforcement agencies like the DEA, it is crucial for us to remain vigilant and report any suspicious activities that may threaten the well-being of our neighborhoods. Together, we can help build a safer and more secure environment for all members of our community.
