Haley Joel Osment caused quite a commotion at a chair lift before his arrest at California’s Mammoth Mountain resort earlier this month, and the whole incident was caught on video by TMZ.
The video shows the “The Sixth Sense” star, wearing his helmet backward, in line for the chair lift without his snowboard. Despite a crew member’s attempts to reason with him and remove him from the line, Osment is insistent on going up the mountain even without his board to bring him back down.
Fellow skiers and snowboarders grow impatient with Osment, some even heckling him to leave. Osment shrugs off their demands, seemingly unfazed by their anger.
An eyewitness reported that a resort guest tugged on Osment, causing both of them to take a tumble. Eventually, Osment removed himself from the line after being informed that ski patrol was on their way to defuse the situation.
After walking out of the queue with a slight smirk on his face, Osment reportedly fumbled around with his snowboard. Witnesses also mentioned that he smelled strongly of alcohol during the incident.
As previously reported, Osment was arrested at Mammoth Mountain on April 8 for public intoxication and possession of a controlled substance. He was booked and released, leaving the decision on whether to prosecute the case to the Mono County District Attorney.
Mammoth Mountain declined to comment on the arrest.
This is not Osment’s first run-in with the law. In 2006, he was arrested for driving under the influence after crashing into a brick pillar. He pleaded no contest to DUI and possession of marijuana, resulting in 3 years of probation, 60 hours of alcohol rehab, 6 months of AA meetings, and a $1500 fine.
The incident at the chair lift is just the latest in a series of legal troubles for the actor, who rose to fame as a child star in the 1990s. Stay tuned for more updates on this developing story.
