Nerdy Burglars Caught Stealing Magic: The Gathering Cards

Two nerdy burglars were apprehended this week for allegedly robbing a Tennessee comic book store of thousands of dollars worth of Magic: The Gathering cards while sporting low-quality Halloween masks.

The culprits broke into Grand Adventures Comic and Games in Murfreesboro on Tuesday, making off with an estimated $8,000 worth of collectible cardboard gaming cards, according to investigators.

Surveillance footage captured one man wearing a nun mask and habit, reminiscent of the heist movie “The Town,” while the other donned a Michael Meyers mask.

Despite their attempts at disguise, law enforcement quickly caught up with them.

Philip Clodfelter, 42, and Kelly Garner, 64, were apprehended after their erratic driving led to a police stop.

An officer recognized the masks and spotted the stolen Magic: The Gathering cards inside their vehicle, as per the Murfreesboro Police Department.

Clodfelter and Garner also attempted to break into another store, Grand Slam Collectibles, on the same night but were unsuccessful.

Authorities suspect the duo of being involved in similar burglaries at comic stores in Brentwood and Nashville.

Both individuals are currently held on $48,000 bond at the Rutherford County Adult Detention Center, facing charges of burglary, theft, and vandalism.

From Nerdy to Vice Presidential Candidate

Interestingly, earlier this summer, it was revealed on “Fox & Friends” that Republican vice presidential candidate J.D. Vance was once an avid Magic: The Gathering player, with his wife jokingly calling it the dorkiest thing about the Ohio senator.

Vance admitted in an interview that he stopped playing the game as he got older, stating, “The big problem with transitioning from being a 13-year-old who likes Magic: the Gathering to being a 15-year-old who likes Magic: the Gathering is that 15-year-old girls do not like Magic: the Gathering.”

He further explained, “So I dropped it like a bad habit,” highlighting a humorous side to his past nerdy pursuits.
