Israel’s offensive has thus far killed over 41,000 Palestinians and injured 95,029 others.

Cairo:

The Palestinian Hamas group announced on Wednesday that its negotiators have reiterated their willingness to implement an “immediate” ceasefire with Israel in Gaza based on a previous U.S. proposal without any new conditions from any party.

In a statement, the Palestinian group mentioned that their negotiation team, led by senior official Khalil al-Hayya, held discussions with mediators on Wednesday, including Qatar’s Prime Minister Sheikh Mohammed bin Abdulrahman Al Thani and Egypt’s intelligence chief Abbas Kamel in Doha to address the latest developments in Gaza.

Efforts to reach a resolution to end the 11-month-old war have not been successful so far. One of the lingering issues is the control of the Philadelphi corridor, a narrow stretch of land on Gaza’s border with Egypt.

CIA Director William Burns, who also serves as the chief U.S. negotiator on Gaza, stated on Saturday that a more detailed ceasefire proposal would be presented in the coming days.

The initial proposal put forth by U.S. President Joe Biden in June outlined a three-phase ceasefire in exchange for the release of Israeli hostages.

The recent conflict in Gaza began after Hamas militants launched an attack on Israel on Oct. 7, resulting in the death of 1,200 individuals and the capture of around 250 hostages, as per Israeli reports. According to the Gaza health ministry, Israel’s military actions have led to the deaths of at least 41,084 Palestinians and the injuries of 95,029 others.
