Continuing the celebration of Zara’s impressive 50-year journey, the iconic fast-fashion retailer has enlisted the creativity of 50 influential figures in the fashion world to curate a special limited-edition collection. This collaboration showcases the talents of renowned personalities including Kate Moss, Nick Knight, and Steven Meisel, resulting in a 50-piece collection encompassing apparel, home goods, accessories, and more. Set for release on October 6, the line will also feature reimagined pieces from celebrated designers like Anna Sui, alongside fragrances crafted by Fabien Baron.
Each meticulously crafted item was designed as a collectible, holding personal significance for the creator. For instance, supermodel Cindy Crawford reinterpreted a classic ‘90s bodysuit and denim shorts ensemble inspired by one of her most recognized looks. Similarly, Narciso Rodriguez brought back an archival spring 2003 dress, now available to modern shoppers for just under $250. To add another dimension of generosity, all proceeds from the Zara 50 Creators project will benefit the nonprofit Women’s Earth Alliance, alongside a charity selected by each artist.
The ease of securing such esteemed participants stemmed from their admiration for Zara and its rich history. As Linda Evangelista expressed in an interview with Vogue Runway, “Oh, my God, the list of the 50. And I made the cut. What an honor. There’s the most incredible talent on the list: Marc Newson, Norman Foster…” Numerous creators echoed this sentiment, citing friendships with Inditex chairperson Marta Ortega Pérez as an influencing factor in their willingness to contribute. After 50 years in the fashion arena, Zara has undoubtedly cemented its status as a go-to brand, even among style icons.
Below, figures such as Sui, Evangelista, Guido Palau, Karlie Kloss, and Ludovic de Saint Sernin share their cherished Zara memories alongside insights into their creative contributions to this milestone project.

How did you get involved with the Zara 50 Creators project?
It was an incredible honor to receive the invitation to participate. My connection with Marta began when I traveled to Spain for the Steven Meisel exhibition, which was a phenomenal experience. So, having heard from Zara was thrilling.
Can you recall a favorite Zara item or shopping memory?
My standout memory would definitely be the Meisel collection. It felt like it was crafted in paradise, with a boutique ambiance that was just so stylish. The pieces were quintessentially Steven, characterized by leather textures, dark plaid, and chic denim. I rushed to the store during showtime and can still recall the exhilarating race to snag as much from that collection as I could.

Your Zara 50 Creators look is based on an archival piece. How did you decide which one to reference?
We aimed for something iconic. When people envision the Anna Sui aesthetic, there’s often a reference to the schoolgirl vibe. Therefore, my tribute was a cheeky take on a schoolgirl outfit—an enticing spandex dress complete with a white collar and cuffs. It features a garter that pairs with stockings as well as an exuberant belt adorned with vibrant, whimsical charms. There are many fun details.
Nicole Phelps recently highlighted a renewed interest in your designs among younger audiences. Considering that vintage and archival pieces can be costly, how do you feel knowing younger generations now have an accessible option through your designs?
I’m genuinely thrilled about this opportunity because I believe many will appreciate this design and perhaps wear it for years to come. Its versatility as a classic piece ensures it can evolve with its wearer’s personal style through the years.

How did you get involved in the Zara 50 Creators project?
I received a beautifully written letter from Marta. It sparked a flood of ideas, but narrowing it down was the trickiest part, deciding on just one to showcase. Moreover, it was heartwarming knowing that part of our collaboration would include donations to a charity of our choice. I chose to support Save the Elephants and Lewa Wildlife Conservancy.

When I find something special, it becomes a lasting addition to my wardrobe. Many items from the Steven Meisel collection are treasured pieces I can’t part with. One significant item is a gray and black flannel shirt, and I wish I had a backup. Additionally, I own a beautiful Meisel scarf that is so large, I proudly display it on one of my chairs.

How did you choose to create a bathrobe?
The inspiration for my item was rooted in a past cherished robe that unfortunately fell victim to moths. I sought to create something that transcended home comfort. Packing in winter is notoriously difficult as you have to choose between a few bulky coats. The bathrobe became the perfect solution, embodying both comfort and necessary practicality. Selecting premium fabric was key, and I was introduced to fine materials; I particularly gravitated towards cashmere blended with a hint of wool for added coziness.
How will you be styling your cashmere robe?
I plan to just live in it!

How did you get involved in the Zara 50 Creators project?
I feel like I’ve been part of the Zara family for many years now, having collaborated with them on multiple levels as a hairstylist and on varying campaigns, including their new hair care line. Our relationship is robust and meaningful.

Some of my fondest memories involve visiting the headquarters in A Coruña two decades ago, where I enjoyed creative shoots and wonderful meals with the Zara team. Their hospitality during those times was incomparable.

Tell us about the items for the project.
Given my extensive portfolio of beautiful hair photography, I envisioned a keepsake book collated with Baron and Baron, including a quirky wig hairpiece that can be cut out and framed, which presents a whimsical artistic element. Each wig will be handcrafted and numbered, echoing my distinctive punk-inspired style, characterized by a playful and colorful approach that incorporates a hint of Warhol.

I have cherished Zara for many years, but I’ve developed a profound appreciation for its outstanding children’s apparel recently.

Why did you choose a Dopp kit for your item?
As a self-acknowledged bag enthusiast, it felt natural to create an essential Dopp kit that simplifies every day and travel life.
What’s inside your “In Kloss of Emergency” bag?
It’s packed with essentials: gum, a sewing kit, notebook, kids’ snacks, lip balm, Estée Lauder Double Wear concealer, travel-sized Good Girl perfume, hair ties, Band-Aids, sanitizer, and, of course, two pairs of sunglasses. My children love sneaking in lollipops and toy cars when they can.

After meeting Marta at an Irving Penn retrospective last year in A Coruña, I was struck by her vivacity and brilliance, leading to my enthusiastic participation in this initiative.

I truly appreciate Zara’s home collection; I utilize a Zara lamp at home regularly. This fondness for home goods inspired my decision to design a chair, along with my adoration for the collection with Vincent Van Duysen.

How did you decide on your item?
This collaboration provided me the unique opportunity to branch out with furniture design. The chair integrates Zara’s recognizable style while still reflecting my own design sensibilities. The development process with the Zara team was remarkable; they even invested in equipment to create exquisite hand-stitching, resulting in a fulfilling and enriching experience.
Where will you showcase your Zara collector’s item?
Although my workspace isn’t the most visually appealing yet, once it is finalized, one of these chairs will occupy a prominent spot. I also anticipate having a set at home, eagerly awaiting the moment friends can enjoy them, too.
Shoppers can expect this much-anticipated collection to drop on Monday, October 6, exclusively at Zara.com.
