Juliette Howell, the producer of the acclaimed film “Conclave,” has been appointed as the new CEO of Lookout Point, a prestigious label under BBC Studios known for producing hit shows like “Happy Valley” and “Gentleman Jack.” This announcement comes after the departure of Lookout Point’s previous co-CEOs Laura Lankester and Will Johnston, who moved to A24 last year.
As the former co-founder and co-CEO of House Productions alongside Tessa Ross, Howell brings with her a successful development slate from House to merge with Lookout Point’s existing pipeline. This collaboration is expected to create a “super-charged drama label,” combining Howell’s expertise in navigating both local UK and international markets with Lookout Point’s established reputation.
Meanwhile, Ross will continue as the sole CEO of House Productions, which joined BBC Studios’ label roster in 2021. House Productions has a track record of producing acclaimed projects such as “The Iron Claw,” “Bird,” and the award-winning film “Conclave.” The company has also worked on successful series like “Sherwood” and “Brexit: The Uncivil War.”
Lookout Point’s slate includes popular shows like “Happy Valley,” “Gentleman Jack,” “A Suitable Boy,” and “Pride and Prejudice” for Netflix. Louise Mutter will remain as the managing director of Lookout Point, collaborating with Howell to drive the company’s creative vision forward.
Zai Bennett, CEO and chief creative officer of BBC Studios Productions, expressed his confidence in Howell’s leadership, stating that her appointment ensures Lookout Point remains innovative and dynamic in the ever-evolving industry. Bennett also praised Ross for her continued leadership at House Productions, highlighting her significant impact in the scripted market.
In response to her new role, Howell expressed her excitement about joining Lookout Point and collaborating with the talented team to create the next generation of hit shows. She emphasized her passion for bold and distinctive storytelling, aligning with Lookout Point’s legacy of resonating with audiences. Ross, on the other hand, expressed her pride in the work done at House Productions and wished Howell success in her new endeavor.
Overall, the appointment of Juliette Howell as CEO of Lookout Point marks a new chapter for the company, promising innovative and engaging content for audiences worldwide. With Howell’s creative vision and the support of the talented teams at Lookout Point and House Productions, the future looks bright for both labels under the BBC Studios umbrella.
