In a thrilling match at Forsyth Barr Stadium, the Watson Park-based Harbour team secured their second Dunedin division 1 title with a 41-35 victory over Kaikorai this afternoon.
Back in 2018, they reached the pinnacle alongside University, necessitating a shared championship.
Not this time.
Kaikorai dominated the initial 20 minutes of the game.
Meanwhile, Harbour’s tight five took a while to find their rhythm.
The Hawks needed a boost, and winger Wiremu Brailey delivered.
With his speed, Brailey broke free down the left wing. Although his inside pass was deflected, it conveniently landed back in his hands, allowing him to score in the corner.
Rejuvenated, the Hawks surged ahead, leading 31-9 by halftime.
Kaikorai launched a comeback with two tries from co-captain Lucas Casey.
He nearly secured a third try in the same area.
The No 8 found success repeatedly down the left wing.
Harbour was holding on with determination, as their lead diminished to 10 points with Kaikorai relentlessly attacking.
Ultimately, the Hawks relied on their set piece to escape trouble and seal the win.
