Last week kicked off with an extraordinary encounter – a sit-down interview with none other than Harrison Ford, dressed in a tuxedo. Variety’s senior entertainment writer, Angelique Jackson, had the privilege of writing this week’s cover story on the iconic movie star. At 83 years old, Ford received his first Emmy nomination for his role in the Apple TV+ comedy “Shrinking.” Jackson shares her experience of meeting Ford in Los Angeles for the Cover Story segment of the latest episode of the “Daily Variety” podcast.

Jackson describes Ford as a true professional who delivered beyond expectations. She recalls how Ford transformed from Clark Kent to Superman, starting the interview in a casual olive green sweater with glasses and a cup of black coffee, only to switch to a tuxedo once the cameras started rolling. Every take captured was of the highest quality, showcasing Ford’s undeniable movie star presence.

During the interview, Ford generously shared his memories and experiences, from his early films to his recent work on “Ted Lasso” with Jason Segel. Jackson noticed Ford’s enthusiasm in revisiting his lesser-known roles, such as “American Graffiti” and “Apocalypse Now.” Ford expressed his love for acting, highlighting how it allowed him to hide within the characters he portrayed, a concept he has cherished since his college days.

In addition to Ford’s interview, Todd Spangler, Variety’s business editor, discussed the ongoing cable TV divorces at NBCUniversal and Warner Bros. Discovery. The spinoff organizations, led by Mark Lazarus and Gunnar Wiedenfels, face significant challenges in managing the linear channels that their parent companies are looking to divest. Spangler emphasized the importance of running a tight ship from day one to ensure the success and stability of these new entities.
