Prince Harry and Meghan Markle’s Downfall in the Entertainment Industry
Prince Harry and Meghan Markle, once hailed as a power couple in the entertainment industry, have faced a series of setbacks in recent years. Their initial success with the tell-all docuseries, Harry & Meghan, on Netflix in 2022 was short-lived, as they failed to deliver compelling content beyond their royal victim narrative.
In June 2023, Spotify made the decision to cut ties with the couple after they produced only one product, Markle’s unsuccessful Archetypes podcast, over a two-year period. The head of podcast innovation and monetization at Spotify, Bill Simmons, publicly criticized Harry and Markle, calling them “grifters.”
Their partnership with Netflix also came to an end in September 2025, as the streaming platform dropped its exclusive deal with the couple due to a lack of engaging content that didn’t revolve around their grievances with the royal family. They were left with only a first-look agreement with Netflix.
Markle’s lifestyle series, With Love, Meghan, suffered a similar fate when it was cancelled in January after just two “seasons” and a poorly received holiday special. The couple’s inability to create compelling and original content outside of their royal drama proved to be their downfall in the entertainment industry.
Despite their initial success, Prince Harry and Meghan Markle’s ventures in the entertainment world have been marred by criticism and disappointment. It remains to be seen if they can turn their fortunes around and regain their footing in the industry.
