HBO Max is set to discontinue its 24/7 CNN live news feed just ahead of the launch of CNN’s upcoming standalone streaming service this fall.
Starting Nov. 17, the CNN Max livestream will not be available to HBO Max users in the United States.
Warner Bros. Discovery has confirmed that HBO Max will still host selected CNN Originals, such as “Anthony Bourdain: Parts Unknown,” “Stanley Tucci: Searching for Italy,” and “The Whole Story with Anderson Cooper.”
Previously in May, CNN revealed that its renewed effort to launch a streaming service aimed at younger audiences is scheduled to debut this fall. This follows significant internal discussions and a recognition that its traditional linear service faces ongoing challenges in regaining a larger viewer base.
“The past two years of providing a continuous live news stream on HBO Max has greatly benefited CNN,” remarked Alex MacCallum, CNN’s Executive Vice President of Digital Products and Services. “We’ve gained valuable insights from HBO Max’s vast subscriber base regarding viewer preferences, and with our own new streaming subscription set to launch later this fall, we’re excited to leverage that knowledge and expand our audience with this innovative offering.”
