Recent studies suggest that climate models may be underestimating the severity of future heatwaves in certain regions, including the UK, northern France, southern Australia, and northern Canada. According to Kai Kornhuber, a researcher at the International Institute for Applied Systems Analysis in Austria, as global temperatures continue to rise, these areas could experience heat extremes that exceed current projections.

While climate models serve as valuable tools for predicting future climate scenarios, Kornhuber warns that their projections for extreme events should be viewed as conservative estimates. As such, it is crucial for policymakers, researchers, and the public to prepare for the possibility of more intense and frequent heatwaves in the years ahead.
