Heirlome Collection: Preserving Craftsmanship Through Artisan Collaborations
Heirlome, a fashion brand founded by Stephanie Suberville, is dedicated to preserving crafts that are often passed down from generation to generation. In an effort to honor the inheritance of skill, every Heirlome collection includes at least one collaboration with a Mexican or Latin American artisan. These artisans are given complete artistic freedom, resulting in a design process full of surprise and creativity.
Stephanie Suberville approaches design intuitively, focusing on what she would want to wear while also considering the preferences of her customers. With a keen understanding of her audience, she can be responsive to their needs and desires. For example, she knows that “Heirlome set” is a top Google search, prompting her to bring back popular pieces like the Marie top in new colors and the satin trench coat.
In the latest resort collection, Suberville has once again partnered with artisans like Arturo Estrada Hernandez and Madres y Artesanas Tex to create unique pieces. Handcrafted rebozo shawls and fringed, patchworked garments add texture and dimension to the collection. New materials such as tussah silk and bouclé are introduced, along with tailored pieces like a straight black coat with clerical buttons and Thai-inspired wrap pants.
The standout print in the resort collection was created by Alex Jurado Mata Ortiz, drawing inspiration from the indigenous Paquimé of Chihuahua, México. The geometric patterns in the print translate into bold and beautiful shapes, adding a dynamic element to the designs.
Heirlome’s commitment to showcasing the talent and craftsmanship of Mexican and Latin American artisans sets them apart in the fashion industry. By collaborating with these skilled individuals, the brand is able to create unique and culturally rich collections that resonate with customers around the world.
