Earlier this evening, a pedestrian was struck by a car near Roxburgh in Central Otago, resulting in serious injuries. The incident occurred on Fruitlands-Roxburgh Rd (State Highway 8) around 7.30pm, according to a police spokesperson.

Following the collision between the vehicle and pedestrian, the road was closed between Roxburgh East Rd and Jedburgh St. Southbound traffic was redirected via Roxburgh East Rd and Jedburgh St, while northbound traffic was advised to take the reverse route. All vehicles were able to use this detour. For real-time updates on road closures and traffic, please refer to https://t.co/mdpXlwxvff.

The police confirmed that the pedestrian sustained serious injuries and that diversions were in place from Roxburgh to Roxburgh Dam. Motorists were urged to find alternative routes and anticipate delays as the Serious Crash Unit commenced their investigation into the incident.
