HIV/AIDS advocates fear federal funding cuts will undermine prevention

WASHINGTON — Organizations focused on HIV testing and prevention are urging federal health authorities to reinstate a vital funding initiative that has recently expired.

Jeremiah Johnson, executive director of the advocacy group PrEP4All, informed STAT that the lapse in funding threatens to undermine the broadening of access to HIV preventive care, potentially leading to the closure of some organizations.

“We’ve heard from some community-based organizations (CBOs) that they won’t survive the cuts,” he mentioned.
