New York Governor Kathy Hochul is pushing back against accusations from Former House Speaker Nancy Pelosi that her performance in the 2022 gubernatorial race cost Democrats their House majority. In a recent interview with MSNBC’s “Morning Joe,” Hochul defended her efforts to support Democratic candidates, stating that she has worked tirelessly to elect members of Congress.

Pelosi had suggested that Hochul’s narrow victory in the gubernatorial race may have been a contributing factor to Democrats losing four seats in New York to Republicans in the midterms. However, Hochul firmly rejected this claim, emphasizing her dedication to fundraising for the Democratic Party and coordinating with key party leaders like House Minority Leader Hakeem Jeffries and Senator Kirsten Gillibrand.

Despite not being a candidate herself in the upcoming elections, Hochul expressed confidence in her ability to focus on key purple districts in New York, such as the Hudson Valley, Syracuse, Central New York, and Long Island. She highlighted the importance of mobilization, messaging, and fundraising in winning back these crucial seats and ensuring a strong Democratic presence in Congress.

Pelosi, on the other hand, stated that she had not personally spoken to Hochul about the upcoming races but had discussed strategies with Jeffries. She stressed the need for a unified approach to the elections, focusing on mobilizing voters, crafting a compelling message, and raising sufficient funds to support Democratic candidates.

As the 2024 elections approach, Governor Hochul is determined to lead the charge in securing Democratic victories in New York and beyond. With a renewed focus on key districts and a commitment to grassroots organizing, she is confident that Democrats can reclaim lost ground and emerge stronger than ever in the House of Representatives.
