Copenhagen Fashion Week: Holzweiler Makes a Triumphant Return
Over the past two decades, Copenhagen Fashion Week has solidified its position as a must-attend event on the global fashion calendar. Not only does it attract international attention, but it also serves as a platform for showcasing Nordic talent. This fall, Norwegian brand Holzweiler made a triumphant return to the Copenhagen runway after a two-year hiatus, marking the first brand to fill the coveted homecoming slot on the fashion calendar.
Speaking about their return to Copenhagen, Holzweiler’s creative director Maria Skappel Holzweiler expressed a sense of nostalgia and belonging, stating, “We started in Oslo, but Copenhagen is where the international journey started. Coming back to Copenhagen feels very personal, but also very right for us; we feel like we can just be 100% ourselves in this city.”
The showcase took place at Vandflyverhangaren, a converted seaplane hangar turned creative space, where Holzweiler unveiled their fall collection themed around preservation. The collection explored the concept of memories, some crystal clear while others more hazy, reflected in the use of semi-sheer fabrics and “filtered” looks. Holzweiler’s commitment to creating timeless pieces that transcend trends was evident in their selection of corduroys, leather bombers, shearling outerwear, dark wash jeans, and checked wool coats.
One standout element of the collection was the use of striking velvet prints, including a dried flower motif and denim velvet with a metallic sheen. Full-length cover-ups with toggles exuded an angelic charm, while plissé dresses and gowns with floating trains added a dreamy touch to the lineup. The finale—a bridal puffer jacket—was a clever nod to the brand’s Nordic roots and expertise in functional outerwear.
Overall, Holzweiler’s fall collection showcased a blend of practicality and whimsy, with a focus on creating garments that stand the test of time. As Copenhagen Fashion Week continues to evolve and attract attention on the global stage, brands like Holzweiler are paving the way for Nordic talent to shine.
