A tragic incident unfolded in Logan Square on Friday morning as a mother allegedly stabbed her three children, resulting in the death of her 4-year-old son, and set their family home on fire. The harrowing scene left the community in shock and disbelief.
Police were called to a residence in the 3600 block of West Palmer Street following a report of a person wielding a knife. Upon arrival, officers were met with a chaotic situation as the house was ablaze, a child was screaming for help from a basement window, and reports indicated that the mother was still inside armed with a weapon.
Amidst the blaze, first responders discovered three children with stab wounds inside the home. Tragically, 4-year-old Jordan Wallace succumbed to a fatal stab wound to the chest. His 10-year-old brother sustained injuries to his arm and is currently hospitalized in serious condition, while their 13-year-old sister suffered multiple stab wounds and is in critical condition.
The 45-year-old mother of the children was taken into custody by Chicago police as the prime suspect in the heinous crime. Additionally, three police officers who bravely entered the burning building to rescue the children were also hospitalized for smoke inhalation but are reported to be in fair condition.
The fire not only engulfed the family home but also spread to a neighboring building, causing two adults to suffer from smoke inhalation. They are currently receiving treatment at Stroger Hospital.
The incident prompted a significant emergency response, with federal agents from the Bureau of Alcohol, Tobacco, Firearms, and Explosives present at the scene to assist in the investigation.
As of Friday evening, no charges have been formally announced, leaving the community in mourning and seeking answers to this senseless tragedy.
