Former Congressman Rodney Davis has been tasked with the challenge of repairing the fractured relationship between the U.S. Chamber of Commerce and the Republican Party. With Donald Trump set to take office in January, the Chamber is facing a massive challenge as the new administration vows to implement populist policies that may not align with the Chamber’s priorities.

Davis, who served in the House from 2013 to 2023, is stepping up to the plate as a seasoned lobbyist with the skills to mend fences and rebuild bridges between the Chamber and Republican lawmakers. In an interview with Playbook co-author Rachael Bade, Davis shared his strategy for reestablishing the Chamber’s influence in Washington.

One key aspect of Davis’ approach is to remind his former colleagues in Congress of the shared priorities they have with the Chamber. By highlighting areas of common ground, such as tax reform, energy permitting, and immigration, Davis aims to refocus the conversation on issues that matter to both the business community and the Republican Party.

In Trump’s new Washington, relationships will be crucial for advancing the Chamber’s agenda. Davis emphasized the importance of cultivating strong ties with key players in Congress and the White House to ensure that the Chamber’s voice is heard in policy discussions.

As the Chamber prepares for a new era of policymaking under the Trump administration, Davis is determined to restore the organization’s influence and secure a seat at the table. By leveraging his experience and connections on Capitol Hill, Davis is poised to navigate the changing political landscape and advocate for the Chamber’s priorities in the months ahead.
