How did Storm rookie perform against Mercury in WNBA debut? (May 17)

The Seattle Storm made a bold move in the 2025 WNBA draft by selecting Dominique Malonga with the No. 2 pick. Hailing from France, Malonga may not have garnered as much attention as Paige Bueckers, but she certainly turned heads when Tony Parker compared her to the “female version” of Victor Wembanyama.

Standing tall at 6-foot-6, the 19-year-old rookie made waves during the Storm’s training camp by throwing down a dunk that went viral. Although she sat out Seattle’s lone preseason game, Malonga made her official WNBA debut on the road against the Phoenix Mercury.

In her first half of action against the likes of Alyssa Thomas and Satou Sabally, Malonga put up 2 points in just over 5 minutes of play. She shot 1-2 from the field and showed promise despite the Storm trailing by 2 points.

As the game progresses, all eyes will be on Malonga to see how she continues to perform in her rookie season. With her unique skill set and potential, she could become a key player for the Storm in the future.
