As “Creature Commandos” prepares to make its debut, Gunn is excited for audiences to take a bite out of this new corner of the DC Universe. With its mix of monsters, metahumans, and political intrigue, the series promises to be a wild and unpredictable ride. And with the potential for characters to crossover into live-action projects, the possibilities for the future of the DCU are endless. Fans can expect the unexpected as Gunn continues to push the boundaries of storytelling within the superhero genre.

As the DC Universe continues to expand and evolve, “Creature Commandos” stands as a testament to the creative freedom and diverse storytelling that DC Studios aims to bring to its audience. With Gunn at the helm, the future of the DCU looks brighter and more exciting than ever before. So buckle up, because the world of monsters, magic, and mayhem is just getting started.

When James Gunn first saw his animated self in the upcoming series “Peacemaker,” he was taken aback by how attractive he looked. “But then I saw the first four episodes, and I was blown away by how attractive my animated self is,” he admitted. This revelation came as a surprise to Gunn, who was initially skeptical about his animated counterpart.

However, bringing Flag Sr. to life in “Peacemaker” presented a challenge for Gunn, as his character had to replace Waller as the head of A.R.G.U.S. Due to his commitments to filming the Paramount+ series “Tulsa King” at the same time, Gunn couldn’t replicate Flag Sr.’s distinctive grey hairstyle. “Hair has been an issue,” Gunn explained. “I wanted my hair to be exactly the way I am in the animation, because I think that is a badass haircut. But because of my other obligation, I couldn’t, so we had to reverse engineer the hair.”

The production team aimed to give the animation a more realistic look compared to other recent DC animated shows like “Harley Quinn.” Showrunner James Lorey explained, “We wanted to give it a sort of an Eastern European flair, and have a darker, more complex color palette.” This attention to detail and realism became apparent in the vivid action sequences visualized by the animation team.

Writer John Agee shared that Gunn’s graphic descriptions of the action sequences were brought to life in a brutal yet captivating way. Gunn himself admitted that he was initially taken aback by the level of violence portrayed in the animation. “Originally, the script was written in such a way that there were moments of violence, but it maybe wasn’t going to be as violent as it ended up,” Gunn said. “The truth is what they were doing was so great, I was like, ‘Oh, let’s just do it.'”

One surprising aspect for Gunn was the decision to include an animated version of himself in the opening credits. Lorey revealed, “We did it without telling James. We were like, I hope he’s not offended!” Gunn, while initially embarrassed, eventually gave his approval. “My ego was stroked and I was very embarrassed by it. But at the end of the day, I said OK, and it’s in there. So what are you going to do?” Gunn said, laughing.

As “Peacemaker” prepares to make its debut, fans can expect a mix of sweetness, melancholy, violence, and even a touch of sexiness, all brought to life through stunning animation. Gunn’s journey into the world of animation has been a surprising and rewarding experience, one that he looks forward to sharing with audiences.
