Actress Maggie Gyllenhaal’s daughter, Ramona, found herself in legal trouble this week on May 7, 2025. The issue arose from Ramona’s alleged involvement in the anti-Israel protests that took place at Columbia University, as reported by the New York Post.
According to the outlet, approximately 80 individuals were arrested for their participation in the protest, which resulted in injuries to some school safety officers. A video obtained by the New York Post showed a group of people pushing a security guard at the entrance of the university’s library.
Ramona has reportedly received a desk appearance ticket for criminal trespassing, as per the New York Post. She is a student at Columbia College, and as of now, Maggie Gyllenhaal has not made any public statements regarding Ramona’s arrest.
Apart from Ramona, Maggie Gyllenhaal is also the mother of another child named Gloria Ray, both born from her marriage to husband Peter Sarsgaard, who is also involved in the entertainment industry. While Ramona is 18 years old, Gloria is 12 years old in 2025.
The New York Post further detailed that the protestors at the anti-Israel protest at Columbia University made large signs on the bookshelves and added colored tape to the tables. They were heard chanting “Free Palestine” and playing drums during the protest. Palestinian flags were hung on the walls, and the demonstration lasted for approximately five hours.
Acting president Claire Shipman shared additional information on the university’s website, stating that they have reached out to the NYPD to enhance security measures at the university building.
Maggie Gyllenhaal, a renowned actress and director, shares two children with her husband Peter Sarsgaard, Ramona, and Gloria. The couple began dating in 2002, got engaged in 2006, and tied the knot in 2009. Peter Sarsgaard has had a successful acting career, appearing in various TV series and miniseries.
