The Conclusion of “Tell Me Lies”: Creator Meaghan Oppenheimer Announces Series Finale
Tell Me Lies will not be returning for more episodes after its third season, creator Meaghan Oppenheimer confirmed on Monday, February 16. In an Instagram post, Oppenheimer expressed her pride in the show’s three-season run and stated that the series finale would be airing that night. She emphasized that the decision to end the show was intentional, as she and her writing team had always envisioned this as the conclusion of the story.
Oppenheimer further explained, “My main goal has always been to protect the quality of the show and give you the best experience I can give you. And so, while it is bittersweet to leave something that has been such a happy experience, I am very grateful that we are able to tell a complete story with an intentional ending — a privilege very few shows get.”
The season 3 finale, originally scheduled for Tuesday, February 17, will now serve as the series finale as well. Oppenheimer had previously hinted at the possibility of season 3 being the show’s last, stating in an interview with Us Weekly that she had always envisioned this as the ending.
The Story of “Tell Me Lies”
Based on Carola Lovering’s novel, Tell Me Lies follows the tumultuous relationship between college students Lucy (Grace Van Patten) and Stephen (Jackson White). Their on-and-off romance spans eight years, affecting everyone around them.
The Final Season
Season 3 of Tell Me Lies, which premiered in January, introduced a surprise romance between Bree (Cat Missal) and Wrigley (Spencer House), adding complexity to the storyline. As the season progressed, tensions rose as Bree navigated her feelings for Wrigley while preparing for her wedding to Evan (Branden Cook).
Off screen, Oppenheimer discussed how the writers’ room managed the dual timelines of the show, ensuring that each character’s arc was satisfyingly resolved by the end of the season.
Looking Ahead
Following the announcement of the series finale, fans can expect more storytelling from Meaghan Oppenheimer in the future. After the show’s renewal for a third season, Oppenheimer signed an overall deal with 20th Television, a part of Disney Television Studios. The final episode of Tell Me Lies is set to air on Hulu on Tuesday, February 17.
