Gruesome Warning to Gangs: Five Decapitated Heads Displayed at Tourist Beach in Ecuador
On a popular tourist beach in Ecuador, five decapitated heads were shockingly displayed between two wooden poles, sending a gruesome warning to gangs operating in the area. The heads, tied with green rope, were found at the Pacific resort of Puerto Lopez, sparking fear and outrage among locals and visitors alike.
According to reports from local outlet Primicias, a sign accompanying the severed heads delivered a chilling message to gangs involved in extorting local fishermen. The message sternly warned, “The town belongs to us. Keep going out to rob the fishermen. And keep asking for vaccine cards, because we already have them all.”
While the decapitated bodies have not been located, authorities were able to identify the victims, with one of them, 24-year-old Bernardo Ramon Medranda Mendoza, having a criminal record related to firearms possession.
Ecuador has been battling a surge in violence linked to international drug cartels, with recent incidents including a deadly shooting that claimed six lives, including a baby, and injured three others in the vicinity of Puerto Lopez.
Being a crucial juncture in the global cocaine trade, Ecuador has been a focal point for drug trafficking activities, prompting the government, under the leadership of President Daniel Noboa, to intensify efforts against drug cartels. However, despite these measures, the country witnessed a record homicide rate in 2025, reaching 52 per 100,000 inhabitants, as reported by the Organized Crime Observatory.
