A Shocking Discovery in a Quiet San Diego Neighborhood
A serene San Diego neighborhood was shaken to its core on Tuesday when a multi-agency task force uncovered human remains buried on a residential property, unraveling a long-standing mystery.
Federal agents and local police swarmed a home in the Southcrest area of San Diego to execute a search warrant following a tip about a body hidden on the premises.
The grim discovery was made at a house on Newton Avenue. The California Highway Patrol (CHP), working alongside the FBI and San Diego PD, meticulously combed through the property.
The San Diego District Attorney identified 74-year-old Dwight Rhone as a person of interest in the case. Records show that Rhone resided at the Newton address in 2020 and has a history of numerous arrests dating back to 1978.
Rhone is also linked to the 2023 murder of Bernardo Moreno and is currently in custody at the San Diego Central Jail facing multiple charges.
Chopper footage captured investigators in hazmat gear conducting a thorough search of the property, ultimately confirming the presence of human remains.
Following the discovery, the FBI San Diego stated, “Working through our Evidence Response Team, the FBI provided expertise in evidence collection and processing, including the use of forensic canines.”
The San Diego Medical Examiner is now working to identify the remains and determine the circumstances surrounding the victim’s death. Authorities are withholding details about the suspect and the timeline of the remains’ presence.
