The French police seem to be taking a rather leisurely approach to their duties, allowing illegal migrant boats to make their way across the English Channel to the UK. The situation is further complicated by people smugglers who have turned to a new, perilous tactic: launching multiple small boats simultaneously to outmaneuver French authorities.
“EU border agency Frontex has officially noted that traffickers are evolving their strategies to increase the number of successful crossings. This tactic of ‘simultaneous departures’ is endangering more lives by overwhelming rescue operations.”
“Channel crossings continued today, with images showing new arrivals in life jackets being escorted to safety by a Border Force boat in Dover, Kent, before being transported away from the port.”

In the first five months of 2025 alone, a staggering 14,812 illegal migrants have reached the UK, despite a reported 20% decline in irregular border crossings throughout the European Union.
“A significant point of tension between Britain and France has been the French government’s reluctance to turn back boats already in the water.”
“However, the French authorities are now indicating a willingness to adjust their approach and turn back vessels in shallower waters, albeit with a demand for increased funding to facilitate this change.”
