Hunter Biden Faces Lawsuit Over Unpaid Legal Fees Exceeding $50,000

A lawsuit filed against Hunter Biden on Monday reveals that the former first son owes the law firm, Winston & Strawn LLP, “substantially in excess of $50,000” for legal representation in federal investigations, including his Delaware gun case.

The complaint, filed in the Superior Court of the District of Columbia, alleges breach of contract for unpaid legal fees. Hunter hired Winston & Strawn to represent him in various complex matters, including a criminal trial in the United States District Court for the District of Delaware, which generated a substantial amount of fees.

According to the lawsuit, Hunter has avoided paying the outstanding fees despite repeated requests from the firm. The complaint states that he currently owes Winston & Strawn substantially more than $50,000 in fees and interest that are due and payable.

Winston & Strawn seeks to enforce its contract rights against Hunter through judgment for the amount due and a lien on all of his assets.

The lawsuit includes a copy of the engagement contract Hunter signed in December 2022, outlining the firm’s representation in congressional oversight and investigation events and assistance in DOJ and US Attorney investigations.

Hunter’s attorney, Abbe Lowell, who has since left Winston & Strawn, detailed the billing rates for legal services provided, ranging from $230 to $1,945 per hour.

Winston & Strawn claims to have incurred substantial financial damages due to Hunter’s alleged breach of the engagement contract, resulting in outstanding fees exceeding $50,000 as of April 30, 2025.

An initial hearing for the case is scheduled for September 19, and Winston & Strawn declined to comment on the ongoing litigation.

In light of Hunter’s recent legal troubles, including the felony gun case and tax evasion charges, the lawsuit adds to the scrutiny surrounding the finances and legal affairs of the Biden family.
