A shocking incident unfolded in Pennsylvania when a bus driver witnessed a man shooting his wife in the middle of a roadway and callously walking away, leaving her to die. Jose Luna, 59, has been charged with first-degree murder in the death of his wife, Alisett Schubert, 48, according to the Montgomery County District Attorney’s Office.
The tragic event took place on Saturday, February 21, in Rockledge, a borough located outside of Philadelphia. Schubert was found lying on the ground, fatally shot, outside of her vehicle that had come to a stop in the road. Despite being rushed to a local hospital, she was pronounced dead.
The SEPTA bus driver who witnessed the horrific scene recounted hearing gunshots and seeing Luna exit the passenger side of the vehicle. Luna then allegedly opened the passenger door, causing Schubert to fall out of the SUV. Shockingly, Luna proceeded to walk away from the scene but was apprehended by Philadelphia Police about a mile away from the car.
As officers approached Luna, he attempted to take his own life with the firearm, but it was out of ammunition. He was subsequently arrested and is awaiting a preliminary arraignment and hearing. Details from an affidavit of probable cause suggest that Luna and Schubert had a heated argument while driving home from a party, leading to the fatal shooting.
Luna reportedly shot Schubert multiple times after a struggle over a gun found in her purse. The affidavit indicates that Luna felt disrespected by Schubert earlier in the day, which may have fueled the deadly altercation. In addition to first-degree murder, Luna faces charges of third-degree murder and possessing an instrument of a crime.
Due to the severity of the charges, Luna is being held without bail as he awaits his preliminary hearing scheduled for March 5.
