Paris Saint-Germain (PSG) goalkeeper Gianluigi Donnarumma has left his future open-ended following the club’s UEFA Champions League triumph. The Italian shot-stopper, whose contract expires next June, has yet to make a decision on his next move.
In the final against Inter Milan, PSG secured their first Champions League title with a resounding 5-0 victory in Munich. Goals from Desire Doue, Achraf Hakimi, Khvicha Kvaratskhelia, and Senny Mayulu sealed the historic win for the Parisian side.
When asked about his future after the match, Donnarumma stated, “I don’t know, we’ll see. Now we have two important games for Italy to qualify for the 2026 FIFA World Cup, so we must be concentrated and ready, especially in Norway, which is going to be really complicated.”
Donnarumma also praised PSG manager Luis Enrique for his approach, saying, “The coach gives us freedom, calm, the time to stay home with our families…his philosophy works, I agree with it. We were so calm and confident, it barely felt like a Champions League final.”
The 26-year-old goalkeeper, who joined PSG as a free agent in 2021, kept 12 clean sheets in 40 appearances for the club during the 2024-25 season.
Following PSG’s Champions League success, former Liverpool captain Steven Gerrard raised questions about the team’s future. Gerrard highlighted the challenge of maintaining PSG’s high standards and finding ways to further improve the squad.
Despite spending around €240 million on new signings like Khvicha Kvaratskhelia, Joao Neves, Desire Doue, and Willian Pacho last season, PSG dominated the Ligue 1 campaign, winning the title by a comfortable 19-point margin.
As PSG looks ahead to the future, the club faces the task of sustaining their success and identifying areas for growth to maintain their position at the top of European football. Donnarumma’s decision on his future will undoubtedly play a significant role in shaping PSG’s next steps in the coming seasons.
