Islam Makhachev has expressed interest in a potential boxing match with Conor McGregor in the future.
McGregor is renowned as the biggest star in mixed martial arts, celebrated for his outstanding striking skills. He played a significant role in popularizing the sport and remains the leading pay-per-view draw in MMA history, headlining five of the top-selling UFC events ever.
In August 2017, McGregor faced Floyd Mayweather in a highly publicized boxing match, which achieved the second-highest pay-per-view buy rate in history. With his experience in boxing, McGregor might one day face his MMA rival’s protégé in the ring.
As Makhachev prepares for his welterweight title fight against Ian Machado Garry at UFC 330 this weekend, he shared a conversation he had with Turki Alalshikh about a potential boxing match with McGregor. In an interview with UFC Eurasia, Makhachev stated:

“A fight is still possible. I have a new story to tell regarding McGregor. I went to a boxing event, and I was with Turki Alalshikh. He called Conor. He asked Conor if he wanted to box with me. ‘Yes, I am down.’ I told him to ask Dana White, who was near us. He laughed about it. We couldn’t really talk. He started showing … body language… Why not? I am not a high level boxer but I can handle myself with other MMA fighters on the feet.”

Conor McGregor recently shared his thoughts on the upcoming fight between Islam Makhachev and Ian Machado Garry, supporting his fellow countryman to secure a victory.
In an Instagram post, ‘The Notorious’ outlined how Garry could overcome Makhachev, stating:
“Let’s go, Garry. You know. He has the tools, he’s doing great work at SBG. He’s long, he’s definitely going to stay safe, he’s definitely going to be in there. Makhachev has pockets where he is good…He still has things to prove in that welterweight division…He’s grown into it a bit more.”
He further added:
“It’s a cracking contest, I am now with Ian Garry. I really believe he can do it. For sure he can do it… How do I see it? Right high kick across the crown of the head, and a victory for the Irish Brazilian. Let’s go, Ian… What round? Late round. This goes late, folks. This goes late, this fight. Great fight, looking very much forward to it.”
